THERAPEUTIC EMOTIONAL SUPPORT CLASSROOMS (TESC)
The TESC program was designed to address the concerns of the growing number of TSS (Therapeutic Support Staff) present in schools throughout the city of Philadelphia. While initially the role of the TSS was to address the need for Behavioral Management Support through a holistic approach, these services often fell short of meeting that expectation due to TSS workers having less training than other mental health professionals, working in isolated relationships, or having structural limitations. The classrooms utilize a model called the Circle of Courage which focuses on character and leadership development. In the TESC classroom, those students who would have initially been referred for in-school Wraparound services are authorized for service with a full time Master's Level Clinician, who can be assigned to 3 or more students in the classroom.
