Darrin W. Anderson, Sr. PhD
Dr. Darrin W. Anderson, Sr. is a seasoned nonprofit executive and population health leader with more than 25 years of experience advancing health equity, economic mobility, and community‑driven systems change across the Mid‑Atlantic region. He currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Urban League of Greater Philadelphia, where he leads strategic initiatives focused on dismantling systemic barriers and expanding access to education, workforce development, housing, entrepreneurship, and health equity services for historically underserved communities.
Previously, Dr. Anderson served as Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance, overseeing a statewide network of 31 associations, managing $300 million in revenue, and supporting more than 11,500 employees. During his tenure, he built a $5 million annual portfolio of health equity initiatives, secured over $50 million in public funding during the COVID‑19 pandemic, and partnered with national organizations including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, CDC, Sanofi, and Novo Nordisk. Earlier in his career, Dr. Anderson held senior leadership roles with the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association, where he led multimillion‑dollar fundraising, public policy, and community health initiatives.
Dr. Anderson holds a PhD in Kinesiology and Applied Exercise Physiology (Population Health) from Temple University, a Master of Science in Health and Exercise Science from the University of Delaware, and a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education. He has also served as adjunct faculty at institutions including Rowan University and Springfield College and is a widely recognized speaker on health equity, leadership, and economic mobility.
In addition to his role with Community Council Health Systems, Dr. Anderson serves on several boards and advisory committees, including the Committee of Seventy and the New Jersey Department of Health Preventive Health Advisory Committee. His leadership brings a powerful blend of executive experience, community advocacy, public health expertise, and governance insight to the Community Council Health Systems Board of Directors.
